Hey it’s September!! When did that happen?!? I still think it’s weird that I have been out of school for 3 years now. I definitely don’t miss the homework and tests, but the free time around a college schedule I miss, like hitting up the gym mid day or just relaxing in the afternoon and playing computer games. I usually had my homework done in advance if I could so I could have nights like that. I am not a procrastinator. You give me the assignment and I get it done as soon as I can, mostly so it is out of the way and less worry. School is all I knew before and then I was thrown into reality of working full time. Still trying to find the balance between work and fun, but getting better. Now that it is a new month, it’s time to revisit the goals I set last month. I have to be honest, despite writing them down, I forgot about some, so my success was not as great as I hoped, but there was progress.
1) Do a single pull up without assistance
I tried the other day and only got half way up. I have lowered to 40 lbs assistance for a few reps though, so hopefully I will continue to bring the assistance down and get here soon.
2) Do more yoga and stretching
I actually did this! I think I managed at least one yoga session a week. I was able to attend a class a few weekends at Yoga on the Banks in the city and I did a lot more stretching at home this month. I finally feel like I am getting my yoga groove back. Doing a flow outside helps as well in this beautiful weather.
3) Run a half mile without stopping
I am super close to this! I managed 0.4 miles one day when I was feeling really good and ran around my apartment complex after work. [Edit: I meant this goal yesterday!!! Talk about saving until the last day but I got home from work, changed and ran, managing the half mile. WOOHOO! Then proceeded to lay on the floor and foam roll]
1) Read two books
I finished one book…so I guess this one didn’t happen, but it did motivate me to read more by setting this goal
2) Listen to more online videos and podcasts
I listened to a few. Still need to get podcasts on my phone and some headphones so I can listen to them on the go or maybe while walking in the evening.
Alright now for September Goals…
1) Do a pull up without assistance
Repeat since this is one I want to continue to work on.
2) Hold plank for 90 seconds
I love/hate ab work. I love the feel the burn, but obviously hate it too. I know I need to work my abs more and work on my plank. Just doing more yoga I realized how my plank is weakening. I can usually get to 45 seconds to a minute, so challenging myself this month to get to 90 seconds.
1) Read more
Yes I am repeating this one. Since I will be on vacation for a week this month, I am hoping that in between exploring and snorkeling I will be able to fit in some reading. It helps that I am leaving the country because that means I am turning off my phone and limiting the internet, probably only going to use it to look up sites and such to get around so lots of reading on the beach and enjoying myself.
I would really like to fit in 5 minutes of meditation a day to my routine. I feel like it would calm me. As much as I would love this to fit in my morning routine, I feel like I really need it after work to de-stress from the day so I would like to fit 5 minutes of mediating into my evening routine, where I just sit and focus on my breath.
3) Apple Picking
On a less serious note for goals, I am so excited for apple season as the apples are fresher. I am hoping to find another place to apple pick and would like this to happen this month but may wait until October. After my week of vacation the Pope comes to Philly and the city is pretty much shut down, but maybe I will be able to make it out to the further suburbs that weekend to apple pick?
