It’s the first Monday of February!! That is crazy!! The good news is we are one month closer to spring (at least I am hoping). We are expecting snow, ice or rain today. I don’t really know which. It keeps changing and last week when they mentioned we’d get 6-10 inches, that turned out to be anywhere from a dusting of snow to 2 inches around the city and where my apartment is….some blizzard. Meanwhile Chicago got hit with some snow yesterday. Sometimes I miss the snow. I was actually looking forward to the 6-10 inches especially since I knew I didn’t have to drive anywhere. Oh well. At the same time, I could really go for some beach weather…but we aren’t there yet. Starting a new month though and being just a bit closer to spring and summer is good though.
Onto what I did this weekend…
Friday evening at work while I was staying late looked like this outside…
Luckily that cleared up in 20-30 minutes so by the time I actually walked to the train it was cold but not snowing. The weekend was so windy though and my apartment windows are quite drafty, so my apartment wouldn’t get much above 62-65 degrees inside. Cold temperatures always make it hard to leave a warm bed full of blankets in the morning, but eventually I got up and started being productive Saturday morning with some cleaning and eating breakfast before Brian arrived.
Brian has been working the night shift at work so after driving to the apartment, I let him nap for 2 hours while I went to Whole Foods and then made some guacamole.
Then I woke him up so we could go see an apartment together. I am glad I am not completely deciding alone this time. Brian found this apartment online, in a different area than we currently live but still walking distance to the train (actually they have a shuttle bus over to the train too because there are some busy roads to cross) and it is about the same amount of time on the train maybe a bit longer, but reasonable. That was important factor 1 when looking for a new place. We also had to make sure there was a decent size kitchen because really I live in the kitchen when I am home. Then we had to make sure there would be parking for both of us. Even though it is me most of the time in the apartment, parking a second car when Brian has the chance to come down is very difficult in our current place. Luckily parking was not a problem at this apartment because it was more suburban. This does mean I pretty much have to drive everywhere, but I will be able to get some good walks in around the property because they have a small 9 hole golf course and it’s along the river. Basically to sum it up, after looking at the sample apartment, it is a decent size and includes so much that it was an easy decision to decide to move there at the end of March. I am sooo glad that Brian was able to make time to come see it with me and that we have that decision made. I can’t wait to see what the outdoor pool is like come summertime too and this view!! We will be on the first floor and it has a patio. Since we are on the first floor though, I think our patio will extend to the lawn if we have guests. Plus I am excited to do yoga outside on warm days 🙂
After finding an apartment, next on my checklist is finding a gym since it is in a different area. We stopped by one gym nearby and got a quick tour, however the pool is like a kiddie pool, not big enough to qualify for a lap pool so that won’t work. I looked up online and it looks like there is a YMCA nearby so I plan to check that out closer to when we move.
We finally made our way back to the apartment and unfortunately Brian had to drive right back to work. I was not feeling too great when we got back due to the long stop and go drive home and all I had for lunch was guacamole and chips. I relaxed at the apartment for a bit until I was feeling better and then made my way to Target and Wegmans. I love browsing the aisles, though I may have walked out with more things than were on my list. I think Brian should get me this card for me for Valentine’s day. LOL
Apparently this is the perfect man…
Then I headed to Wegmans. Since it was 5pm by this time and I still hadn’t eaten anything since around noon, I decided to eat from the hot bar/salad bar at Wegmans before shopping. So convenient and I didn’t know what to cook at home. Plus it probably saved me money overall since I wasn’t shopping with an empty stomach anymore. However, today they were like completely out of bananas!! I need to go to Trader Joes today to restock because I am low on my banana supply and need some to start ripening!!
When I got home, I sat down and organized my yoga binder a bit, finally numbering the pages and making my own table of contents for the poses. I am in the process of writing my first yoga sequence and was annoyed with flipping through a million pages to find the pose I wanted. This will be easier and maybe I can learn the Sanskrit names too since I put Sanskrit and English.
Sunday morning I headed to the yoga studio for back to back yoga classes, an all levels vinyasa followed by gentle yoga, which was nice.
I got back to my apartment with the intention of working on my yoga sequence, but got distracted cleaning up, eating lunch and doing laundry while my laptop installed a million updates. After over an hour of distractions, I finally closed all the windows open on my desktop computer, sat down and worked on my yoga sequence. A couple hours flew by as I pictured poses in my head and tried to figure out the best flow. I still have a few details for my theme to figure out, but it is nice to have the bulk of the work done and now I have a month to practice, memorize and make any changes that come up.
Then it was time to focus on dinner. I cooked some marinated pork, roasted sweet potatoes and warmed up some brussel sprouts.
While eating my dinner, I had some banana chocolate chip crumb topping muffins in the oven for dessert 🙂
The kitchen was a bit of a disaster afterwards, but it was all worth it of course. Cooking, baking and yoga make for the perfect weekend!!
I did not watch the Superbowl, but I did watch the half time show online since I don’t get the TV channel that the Superbowl was on. Great half time show!!
Thank you Katie for hosting!!
